Artist Kyle Lambert helps Alton Towers make a scene as new ride is revealed!
Wicker Man has been unveiled by Alton Towers Resort as the latest ground-breaking thrill attraction, set to be the hottest ride in town! The globally unique rollercoaster experience will fuse wood and fire, and is set to get pulses racing.
U.S. based visual artist Kyle Lambert, who is known for creating film and TV artwork for cult classics such as Stranger Things, Jurassic Park and Star Trek, has depicted the Wicker Man ride in a movie inspired poster, revealing details of the ride for the very first time!
The poster depicts the wooden track as it races three times through the chest of the huge, flaming Wicker Man, who stands six-stories high at the heart of the ride.
Kyle said: “I was incredibly excited when Alton Towers Resort got in touch and asked me to collaborate on a poster for their new rollercoaster experience Wicker Man. I have so many great memories at the theme park from when I was younger. Growing up in Cheshire, North West England, Alton Towers was a huge part of my childhood and was actually where I had my first date with my wife, Ági – so I couldn’t resist taking part!
“When briefed on the legend of the Wicker Man, I was captivated by the mysterious world of The Beornen, a shadowy group living in the woods outside Alton Towers. I felt it was essential to show Wicker Man as a fast, thrilling and multi-sensory experience, combining both wood and fire that is unlike anything anyone has seen before.
“The poster was constructed in three core phases adding to the detail and complexity of the final artwork. I first sketched the outlines using an app called Procreate using an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil, then added tone and finally colour using Adobe Photoshop for Mac using a Wacom Tablet.
Previously only known under its codename, Secret Weapon 8, the Wicker Man will open in Spring 2018 and is the UK’s first new wooden coaster experience in 21 years, with a globally unique Alton Towers Resort twist.
Wicker Man aims to reconnect riders with the primal essence of rollercoasters as they enjoy a multi-sensory immersive experience, in which they’ll be drawn into the mysterious world of The Beornen. This shadowy group live in the woods around Alton Towers and have built the huge wicker effigy believing that racing through the flaming structure is a ‘rite of passage’.
A theatrical pre-show will introduce guests to the Beornen and their plan. They’ll then choose to join the ceremony by taking a ride. The 2000ft wooden track features three passes through the 58ft wicker beast, with special effects creating the illusion that he’s bursting into flames.
“If you look close enough, you can see that I have added a hidden message in the fire using runes and also subtly placed a small group of the Beornen people emerging from the forest, transfixed with the glowing Wicker Man silhouette.
It was an amazing project to be involved with and I am really happy with how the final ‘roller poster’ turned out. I cannot wait to experience the new Wicker Man rollercoaster experience when it debuts in the Spring 2018.”
