SEA LIFE celebrates World Oceans Day on Monday 8 June!

SEA LIFE Aquariums across Australia and New Zealand are celebrating World Oceans Day on Monday 8 June with a series of captivating live streams, including live vision of a rehabilitated sea turtle being released back into the ocean!  Go behind the scenes, watch a LIVE turtle release, swim with sharks and meet a shark expert!

Taking place annually on 8 June, World Oceans Day brings people together to celebrate and honour the ocean. It’s an opportunity to unite the world to protect and restore our shared oceans, which are under threat from pollution, climate change and overfishing.

From 9:30am (AEST) on Monday, tune into Facebook Live for four fin-tastic videos aiming to inspire people all over Australia and New Zealand to love the ocean and its inhabitants.

9:30am at SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium:

  • The Auckland team is taking viewers behind the scenes at the Turtle Rehabilitation Centre to meet the rescue turtles currently undergoing treatment. Meet some of SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s aquarists and discover the wonderful work they do helping injured sea turtles and preparing them for release back into the ocean! Visit to watch.

10:00am at SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast:

  • The Sunshine Coast team is releasing a rescued green sea turtle at Mooloolaba Beach! The turtle named Bear was found stranded on the Noosa North Shore in February, suffering from a bone infection and covered in barnacles. Bear has since undergone treatment at SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast’s Turtle Rehabilitation Centre and is now healthy enough to return to the ocean. Head over to to watch live vision of Bear returning home!

10:30am at SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium:

  • Jesse the Lead Diver at SEA LIFE Melbourne will take you underwater as he dives deep in the breathtaking 2.2 million litre Oceanarium alongside a grey nurse shark, black reef sharks, sawfish, smooth rays, eagle rays, white spotted rays and more! Tune into to see these magnificent sea creatures from Jesse’s underwater vantage point.

11:00am at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium:

  • Round off the morning of ocean inspiration with Rob, SEA LIFE Sydney’s resident shark expert, who will share the story of the aquarium’s most recent grey nurse shark rescue and the team’s work with Department of Primary Industries to help protect this incredible endangered species. Visit to watch Rob in the famous Ocean Tunnel.

The SEA LIFE mission is to inspire a love for the ocean and its creatures – and to encourage people to preserve them for the future.

SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton’s, SEA LIFE Melbourne and SEA LIFE Sydney are all currently open to the public with SEA LIFE Sunshine Coast opening on Thursday 4 June! Check each aquarium’s website for updates, tickets and health and safety information:
