SEA LIFE join World Aquariums Against Marine Litter

In 2018, all our SEA LIFE aquaria joined the ‘World Aquariums Against Marine Litter’ campaign, joining forces with aquariums around the world to help #BeatPlasticPollution for #CleanSeas.

The Europeon Commission launched the “World aquariums against marine litter” campaign in 2017 and following its success it was decided that it would be turned into a formal committment with an aim to have over 200 aquariums committed to raising public awareness about plastic pollution by 2019. This target was successfully reached with aquaria all over the world organising activities such as beach cleans and presentations to raise awareness.

We are proud that all over the world SEA LIFE has promoted ways to reduce marine litter through permanent displays, beach clean-ups and artistic displays to help inspire and educate our guests on ways we can help our world’s oceans. We have also made changes to our own procurement policies, through what we buy and sell and are focused on eliminating single use plastic items from across our business.

On the 3rd of March we were excited to join together with United Nations Environment Programme and 185 aquariums across 41 countries to celebrate the achievements of the #BeatPlasticPollution initiative and to launch the new Global Coalition for Biodiversity in Monaco – led by Oceanographic Museum of Monaco.

We’ll be sharing more news on this coalition and how we’re Ready To Change for Biodiversity 2020.
