Madame Tussauds Blackpool turns back time to welcome the ultimate American war hero

Madame Tussauds Blackpool celebrates ‘peace in our time’ as it welcomes its latest figure, Captain America, to the town by turning back the clock and transforming its iconic promenade into a striking 1940s scene.

Making a movie-worthy entrance, Madame Tussauds took the Blackpool seafront back to the 1940s, when Captain America was first created and then frozen in time ahead of becoming the Avengers’ leader. The transformation was made complete with a vintage tram supplied by Blackpool Heritage Company.

Madame Tussauds Blackpool was assisted in its time travel by volunteers from the Lytham 1940s Wartime Weekend, who gamely stepped in to take Captain America back to his past. The vintage enthusiasts recently returned from assisting at part of the official D-Day 75th anniversary commemorations, overseen by the Queen’s cousin, HRH Duke of Kent.

“Our MARVEL SUPER HEROES area is one of our most popular attraction highlights and we’re delighted to welcome their leader, portrayed by Chris Evans in the movies, into the mix of heroic characters we have for the public to meet and interact with. We really enjoyed taking Captain America briefly back to his past today before firmly returning the figure to the present day so he can sit alongside the other iconic characters we’re home to.”

Matthew Titherington, General Manager at Madame Tussauds Blackpool

Captain America joins the other residents at Madame Tussauds Blackpool’s MARVEL SUPER HEROES area, which includes comic characters including Captain Marvel, Hulk, Ironman, Spiderman and Thor.

The Lytham 1940s Wartime Weekend 2019 takes place on 17th and 18th August on Lytham Green and sees the era brought to life with a bang via live entertainment, re-enactments and the opportunity to try out wartime activities and hobbies for yourself. Highlights include costumed characters, historic vehicles and aircraft, music and dance, memorabilia stalls and a living history camp. Attendance is free and all attendees are welcome to join in the fun by donning period costume.
