What made 1,200 children smile? A whole month of magic!

Involving more than 100 attractions around the world throughout September, Merlin’s Magic Wand’s 2016 Fun Festival was the most magical ever.

Merlin’s Magic Wand is our worldwide charity that adds magic to the lives of seriously ill, disabled and disadvantaged children. Now an annual event, its September Fun Festival gives Merlin attractions worldwide the chance to work with local groups and charities and create original, amazing and (most importantly) magical experiences for children in particular need of extra fun.

This year, for example, Shrek’s Adventure! London teamed up with Richard House Children’s Hospice for gingerbread decorating with the Muffin Man, karaoke with Princess Fiona, high tea with Sleeping Beauty, and much more. It was a huge success: “The characters were brilliant… it made my daughter’s day!”, said one mum.

In Australia, staff at SEA LIFE Mooloolaba dressed up to make a super hero trail come to life (in between some super-fun face painting), while in Charlotte, North Carolina, a local hospital’s young patients enjoyed an exclusive visit from Sharky the SEA LIFE Mascot.

All told, Merlin attractions gave away almost 14,000 tickets and organised 28 special outreach visits, reaching around 1,200 children. Add all this up and that’s millions of brand new smiles, giggles, laughs and amazing memories – and that’s magic! All we have to do now is make next year’s Fun Festival even bigger and better! (No pressure!)
