Merlin sponsors Metropolitan Police Bravery Awards
Did you know that Merlin recently sponsored the 2017 Metropolitan Police Bravery Awards, hosted by the retired CID Officers Association in London?
This year’s award was given to Constables Wayne Marks and Charlie Guenigault for their heroic actions in the London Borough Market terrorist attacks. Although unarmed, the two officers tackled three terrorists who were in the process of assaulting members of the public. Sadly eight people died in the incident but there is absolutely no doubt that the selfless intervention of these two officers saved many other lives. Both men are still recovering from the serious injuries they received.
Group Health, Safety and Security Director Dominic Wigley, Group Head of Security Eric Dench and the London Cluster Head of Security Tony Read were proud to be there at the ceremony, and Eric explains: “It was an honour to sponsor the award to these two officers, particularly as this attack specifically targeted people enjoying an evening’s entertainment. We have a very close working relationship with The Metropolitan Police and are grateful for the continued support they give to our London attractions.” The Awards dinner was also attended by Lady Justice Heather Hallett; Cressida Dick CBE, QPM, Commissioner of Police for the Metropolis; Dany Cotton QFSM, Commissioner London Fire Brigade and The Right Honourable Tobias Ellwood MP, PC, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defence People and Veterans.
We all wish Charlie and Wayne a full and speedy recovery.
